Recovering and replacing legacy financial file converters
Reverse engineering MapForce executables and rebuilding Edlevo and SpeedAdmin conversion as a .NET 8 Frends integration
Abstract
When the mapping project is gone but the invoices still have to arrive, the executable becomes evidence. This paper documents the recovery of undocumented Edlevo and SpeedAdmin conversion contracts and their replacement with an in-process .NET 8 Frends integration. It follows the work from decompiled MapForce code and controlled executable comparisons through grouping rules, parser hazards, financial selectors, configuration and exact Raindance byte layouts.
The recorded replacement reproduced 38 captured original outputs byte for byte; 58 synthetic unit cases passed. An earlier eight-file Edlevo benchmark measured a largest-case original run of roughly 46 minutes against an 81.6 ms warm replacement median, with different execution boundaries made explicit. The transferable method is to recover the contract, preserve its evidence and separate compatibility from financial correctness, receiver acceptance and deliberate changes to business policy.
